Single Engine IFR

Train on reliable and well-equipped aircraft including the Cessna 172, Piper Warrior, Piper Archer, and Piper Arrow. These aircraft are ideal for single-engine instrument training, offering stable handling characteristics and full IFR avionics. They provide an excellent platform for mastering procedures, navigation, and workload management in real-world conditions.

Multi-Engine IFR

Our Piper Seminole and Vulcanair Partenavia are available for students pursuing their PIR with a multi-engine focus. Both aircraft are fully IFR-certified, featuring redundancy and performance suited for advanced training. They’re a perfect fit for pilots who plan to pursue further qualifications such as a full IR or Multi-Engine Class Rating.

Do I need a Commercial Licence to get a PIR?

No. The PIR is available to holders of a Private Pilot Licence (PPL) and is intended for private, non-commercial flying.

What is the difference between a Private Instrument Rating (PIR) and a full IR?

A Private Instrument Rating (PIR) is designed for private pilots who wish to fly under IFR conditions but do not intend to engage in commercial operations. It typically involves less training and has certain limitations compared to a full IR, which is comprehensive and required for commercial flying.

Can I upgrade from PIR to a full Instrument Rating later?

Yes. Time logged and experience gained during PIR training can be credited toward a full IR if you decide to upgrade in the future.

Can I use a PIR to fly overseas?

The PIR is only valid within Australia. For international IFR flying, a full Instrument Rating is required.
