Master the art of flying together.
The Formation Flying (A) Activity Endorsement authorises pilots to conduct formation flight operations in accordance with CASA regulations. Formation flying involves operating multiple aircraft in close proximity with coordinated manoeuvres, often used in airshows, training flights, or military-style operations. This course develops critical skills in precision handling, spatial awareness, discipline, and teamwork.
It’s a rewarding and challenging experience for pilots looking to enhance their stick-and-rudder skills and join formation-capable flying groups or events.

No. You only need a valid pilot licence (such as an RPL or PPL) and appropriate recency to undertake the Formation Flying endorsement.
What kind of flying is this endorsement used for?
Formation flying is used in aerobatic displays, military simulation events, training, ferry flights, and other coordinated operations where multiple aircraft fly in close proximity.
Is formation flying dangerous?
When trained properly and flown within the rules, formation flying is very safe. The course places a heavy emphasis on communication, planning, and safety to reduce risk and ensure tight operational control.
Can I do this course solo or do I need a group?
You don’t need to organise other pilots – training is conducted with an instructor who will organise other members to join you on your formation training flights.
Will I be able to fly in airshows after this?
This endorsement is a first step. Additional approvals and experience may be needed for public displays or airshow participation, but formation endorsement is a key prerequisite.
