Do I need any prior experience to start flight training?
No prior experience is required to begin your journey at RVAC. Our beginner courses are designed for students with no previous flying experience.
The best place to start with no previous experience is with a Trial Introductory Flight.
Where is RVAC located?
We are based at Moorabbin Airport in Melbourne, a premier training location with excellent facilities and airspace suited for flight training.
How long does it take to obtain a pilot licence?
The duration varies based on the licence type and individual progress. For instance, obtaining a Recreational Pilot Licence (RPL) can take a few months, while a Commercial Pilot Licence (CPL) may require a more extended period of dedicated training.
What are the medical requirements for pilots?
Pilots must pass a medical examination conducted by a Designated Aviation Medical Examiner (DAME). A Class 2 medical certificate is required for a Private Pilot Licence (PPL), while a Class 1 medical certificate is necessary for a Commercial Pilot Licence (CPL). It’s advisable to obtain the appropriate medical certificate early in your training.
What is the cost of flight training?
The cost varies depending on the type of licence and individual circumstances. If you are interested in flying as a career, you may be eligible for a VET Student Loan when studying in our Diploma Courses. It’s best to contact us directly for detailed information tailored to your goals.
Is RVAC suitable for international students?

I already hold a pilot certificate issued by RA-Aus. How do I obtain an RPL?
A pilot certificate is equivalent to an RPL. To get your RPL you need to complete an application form, and follow the instructions on the form to provide evidence of your pilot certificate, submit a recent photograph and provide appropriate proof of your identity. You also need to undertake a flight review before you can use your licence. Your new licence grants the relevant category rating, aircraft class rating and design feature endorsements. You are also granted a recreational navigation endorsement if your pilot certificate authorises you to conduct cross-country flights and if you meet minimum flight times.
