SUMMARY:Private Pilots Licence Theory (PPLA) - July 2026
DESCRIPTION:Course Description\nThe Private Pilot’s License Theory Course offered by the Royal Victorian Aero Club is designed to prepare students for the written examination required to obtain a Private Pilot’s License in Australia. The course is delivered in a classroom setting by experienced flight instructors who are also subject matter experts. \nThroughout the course\, students will learn about the fundamentals of aviation\, including aerodynamics\, flight planning\, navigation\, meteorology\, and aircraft systems. The course covers all the necessary topics required by the Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) for a Private Pilot’s License. \nEach class includes interactive lectures\, practical exercises\, and group discussions to reinforce the learning outcomes. Students will also have access to study materials\, including textbooks\, practice exams\, and online resources\, to help them prepare for the written examination. \nUpon completion of the course\, students will have a thorough understanding of the theoretical aspects of flying\, and be well-prepared to sit for the written examination required by CASA. The course also serves as a foundation for further flight training\, as it provides a solid understanding of the fundamental principles of aviation. \nCourse Objectives\n\nTo provide students with a comprehensive understanding of aviation theory and principles\nTo prepare students to pass the written examination required to obtain a Private Pilot’s License in Australia\nTo provide a solid foundation for further flight training\nTo foster a culture of safety and professionalism in aviation\n\nCourse Topics\n\nAerodynamics and aircraft performance\nAir law and regulations\nFlight planning and navigation\nMeteorology\nHuman factors in aviation\nAircraft systems and instruments\nRadio communication and procedures\nPrinciples of flight and aerodynamics\nNavigation and flight planning\nAviation safety and risk management\n\nPrerequisites\nThere are no formal prerequisites for this course\, although a basic understanding of mathematics and physics is helpful. SUMMARY:IREX Theory (Instrument Flight Rating) - July 2026
DESCRIPTION:Course Description\nThe Instrument Rating Examination (IREX) Theory course is a comprehensive program designed to prepare pilots for the challenging Instrument Rating examination. This course is essential for aspiring pilots seeking to enhance their skills and knowledge in instrument flight operations and regulations. \nOver the duration of three weeks\, students will engage in intensive theoretical instruction\, practical exercises\, and simulated scenarios to develop a solid foundation in instrument flight rules (IFR) procedures\, navigation aids\, instrument approach procedures\, and regulations governing instrument flight. \nKey Course Topics: \n\nIFR Regulations and Procedures: A comprehensive overview of instrument flight regulations\, including IFR rules\, clearances\, airspace classifications\, and communication procedures. Students will gain a thorough understanding of regulatory requirements for instrument flight operations.\nInstrument Flight Planning: Instruction on the principles of instrument flight planning\, including route selection\, navigation aids\, weather considerations\, alternate airport planning\, fuel requirements\, and NOTAMs. Students will learn to develop effective instrument flight plans.\nInstrument Navigation Aids: In-depth study of various navigation aids used in instrument flight\, including VOR (VHF Omni-directional Range)\, NDB (Non-Directional Beacon)\, DME (Distance Measuring Equipment)\, GPS (Global Positioning System)\, and ILS (Instrument Landing System). Students will understand the functionality and interpretation of these aids.\nInstrument Flight Instruments: Analysis of the primary flight instruments and navigation equipment used in instrument flight\, such as attitude indicators\, heading indicators\, altimeters\, vertical speed indicators\, and autopilot systems. Students will develop proficiency in using and interpreting these instruments.\nInstrument Approach Procedures: Detailed examination of instrument approach procedures\, including precision and non-precision approaches\, instrument landing systems (ILS)\, VOR/DME approaches\, GPS approaches\, and RNAV (Area Navigation) procedures. Students will gain practical experience in conducting and briefing instrument approaches.\nInstrument Flight Performance and Limitations: Study of aircraft performance and limitations during instrument flight operations\, including takeoff and landing performance\, climb and descent performance\, and weight and balance considerations. Students will learn to calculate performance adjustments based on instrument flight conditions.\nInstrument Meteorology: Introduction to meteorological factors and considerations specific to instrument flight\, including icing conditions\, turbulence\, thunderstorms\, and low visibility conditions. Students will develop strategies to mitigate weather-related risks during instrument flight.\nInstrument Flight Simulations: Practical exercises using flight simulators to reinforce theoretical knowledge and develop instrument flight skills. Students will engage in simulated scenarios\, including IFR flight planning\, navigation\, instrument approaches\, and emergency procedures.\n\nCourse Benefits: \n\nComprehensive understanding of instrument flight regulations\, procedures\, and operations.\nProficiency in instrument flight planning\, navigation aids\, and approach procedures.\nAbility to interpret and use flight instruments effectively during instrument flight.\nEnhanced decision-making skills for instrument flight operations in various weather conditions.\nPractical experience through simulated instrument flight scenarios.\n\nEnrolment Requirements: \n\nPrivate Pilot License (PPL) or Commercial Pilot License (CPL)\nBasic knowledge of aviation regulations and procedures\nProficiency in mathematics and physics is beneficial but not mandatory\n\nEnrol in the IREX Theory course today and prepare yourself to successfully pass the Instrument Rating Examination\, taking a significant step towards becoming a skilled instrument-rated pilot. \nFor any questions in relation to this course\, or if you would like to pay via PayID\, Bank Transfer or Cash\, please call our friendly staff on 03 8586 7777
