SUMMARY:Private Pilots Licence Theory (PPLA) - January 2026
DESCRIPTION:Course Description\nThe Private Pilot’s License Theory Course offered by the Royal Victorian Aero Club is designed to prepare students for the written examination required to obtain a Private Pilot’s License in Australia. The course is delivered in a classroom setting by experienced flight instructors who are also subject matter experts. \nThroughout the course\, students will learn about the fundamentals of aviation\, including aerodynamics\, flight planning\, navigation\, meteorology\, and aircraft systems. The course covers all the necessary topics required by the Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) for a Private Pilot’s License. \nEach class includes interactive lectures\, practical exercises\, and group discussions to reinforce the learning outcomes. Students will also have access to study materials\, including textbooks\, practice exams\, and online resources\, to help them prepare for the written examination. \nUpon completion of the course\, students will have a thorough understanding of the theoretical aspects of flying\, and be well-prepared to sit for the written examination required by CASA. The course also serves as a foundation for further flight training\, as it provides a solid understanding of the fundamental principles of aviation. \nCourse Objectives\n\nTo provide students with a comprehensive understanding of aviation theory and principles\nTo prepare students to pass the written examination required to obtain a Private Pilot’s License in Australia\nTo provide a solid foundation for further flight training\nTo foster a culture of safety and professionalism in aviation\n\nCourse Topics\n\nAerodynamics and aircraft performance\nAir law and regulations\nFlight planning and navigation\nMeteorology\nHuman factors in aviation\nAircraft systems and instruments\nRadio communication and procedures\nPrinciples of flight and aerodynamics\nNavigation and flight planning\nAviation safety and risk management\n\nPrerequisites\nThere are no formal prerequisites for this course\, although a basic understanding of mathematics and physics is helpful. Students must be at least 17 years of age to sit for the written examination required by CASA. \nRequired Materials (not inlcuded in fee)\n\nBob Tait RPL/PPL Study Guide Volume 2 (available from Skylines)\nFlight Computer (E6B\, circular or slide)\nNavigation ruler\nCurrent ML VTC\, VNC\, WAC and ERSA\nWriting materials\nLaptop\n\nAssessment\nAssessment is based on student participation\, completion of practical exercises\, and performance on practice exams. Students must also pass the written examination required by CASA to obtain a Private Pilot’s License. \nFor any questions in relation to this course please call our friendly staff on 03 8586 7777.\nIf you would like to pay via PayID\, Bank Transfer or Cash\, please call flight operations Monday to Friday on 03 8586 7777.  \n
