Ever wondered what your neighbourhood looks like from the sky?
Or maybe you’re just curious about how airplanes work.
You might even dream about being a pilot!
If your answer to any of these is “yes”, and you are between the ages of 13 and 18, then you’re ready to take on the RVAC Young Eagles Flight Experience to see what real pilots do on the ground and in the air.
And best of all your RVAC Young Eagles Flight Experience is FREE!
There is no obligation and you won’t be asked to sign up for anything.
Since 2004 thousands of Young Eagles have enjoyed a flight from RVAC’s
network of volunteer pilots. For many, it was the start of their journey to becoming a pilot, aircraft engineer, air traffic controller or one of the many other career possibilities.
Your RVAC Young Eagles Flight Experience
Your Young Eagles flight will last approximately 30 minutes and you will see the earth and sky in a new and exciting way. This is your chance to experience the freedom of flight that many people only dream about!
Many people remember this experience for the rest of their lives. You will, too.
On the ground: Your pilot explains what will happen during the flight. You may talk about the aircraft, review an aeronautical chart (or map), and complete a careful “walk-around” pre-flight inspection of the aircraft.
Just before takeoff: Your pilot explains the interior of the aircraft, including the operation of the aircraft door, safety belts, and instrument panel.
In the air: The flight lasts between 15 and 20 minutes. During the flight your pilot will explain and demonstrate the effects of the controls on how the aircraft flies and you get to take in the spectacular view that only flying can offer.
Back on the ground: There’s more time for you to ask questions about the flight. Your pilot is happy to tell you more about flying and their particular aircraft.
You also get an official Young Eagles Merchandise bag with loads of information about the exciting world of aviation and how you can be a part of it.
Your Flight Plan
Your first experience of flight is a day to remember and what happens next is entirely up to you. You can learn to fly just for fun, or get serious and seek a professional career. But no matter what your Flight Plan is, it all begins with your first flight.
So whatever you decide, RVAC Flight Training Melbourne is here to help.
The Young Eagles program was established to provide a meaningful flight experience for young Victorians between the ages of 13 and 18, who are the future of aviation in this country and we hope that the experience will ignite the ambition of future pilots.

Find out when the next RVAC Young Eagles event is here.
Prior to your RVAC Young Eagles Flight Experience, there will be a short introduction on RVAC and its history by your Young Eagles Facilitator. Then you’ll learn a little about the physical and written requirements, the training costs and the time it takes for flying lessons. You see how much fun flying is, and how easy it is to learn. Although nothing is mind-boggling or mysterious about flying, there is much to learn – just as there is in learning to drive a car.
After this introduction you’ll be introduced to your Young Eagles Flight Experience Pilot and then the real fun begins!
Nil. Your Flight Experience is provided free of charge to the child through the generosity of RVAC club members. There’s no obligation and you won’t be asked to buy lessons or to sign up for anything.
A parent(s) or guardian(s) must attend on the day; they are welcome to sit in on all of the program and we encourage their input and questions at all times. As part of the registration process before flying, the parent (or guardian) will be required to sign one of standard registration/consent forms. All flights will be in fully CASA-registered and insured training aircraft, flown by a fully-licensed, club-approved pilot in possession of a Working With Children card.
If the weather is unsuitable on the day, you will be given another day to visit and enjoy Flight Experience. Only gentle turns (standard manoeuvres) are performed throughout the flight.
Our Patron: Group Captain Tim Alsop RAAF
We are delighted to have RAAF Group Captain Tim “Slops” Alsop as the Patron of the Young Eagles Victoria program. Wing Commander Alsop commenced his flying training at the RVAC.
Group Captain Alsop’s flying career began flying gliders in Benalla, aged 16. A year later, he was awarded the Sir Reginald Ansett Memorial Scholarship, offered by RVAC. This not only helped him to gain his Private Pilots’ Licence, but marked the start of a long association with the RVAC.
The love of flying Tim developed in these early years prompted him to join the RAAF as a pilot in 1993. During his career he has flown F/A-18, Hawk 127, PC-9/A and Macchi 326H aircraft. In 2009. Tim served with Australian ground forces in Afghanistan and has just completed ‘Advanced Command and Staff College’ and a Masters Degree of Arts in the United Kingdom.
